From Donating Piggy Bank at Age 5 to Winning $48M Jackpot at 18: A Remarkable Journey

The youngest Canadian ever to win a massive $48-million jackpot is a first-time lottery player hailing from northern Ontario. Juliette Lamour, a student at Algoma University, was given the idea to purchase a lotto ticket by her grandfather after turning 18. Lamour forgot all about the ticket until she heard that someone from her hometown had won the jackpot. She was shocked when she checked her ticket on a mobile app and saw “Big Winner” flashing on the screen, causing her colleague to fall to his knees in disbelief. Interestingly, thirteen years ago, SooToday featured a heartwarming story about two young sisters who emptied their piggy bank to help those in need.

At the age of 5, Juliette Lamour witnessed the devastation caused by a catastrophic earthquake in Haiti, which left the country in ruins. She was determined to help and learned that the Canadian Red Cross was accepting donations. She approached her mother, Mary, and asked if she could donate her entire savings, which amounted to $61.38 in her piggy bank. Now, as the winner of a $48 million jackpot, Lamour was asked if her act of kindness as a child had somehow led to this reward. Though unsure, she shared that everyone who had reached out to her had been positive and believed that good things happen to good people. Grateful for her win, Lamour plans to use her winnings to fulfill her dream of becoming a doctor and to continue doing good deeds.
