After being engaged, there are two things everyone anticipates.
The big wedding day and the bachelor or bachelorette party.
Bachelor parties are notorious for drinking, entertainment, and games, and they frequently contain behavior you wouldn’t want to share with your grandma.
But, Mitchell Craddock’s bachelor party ended up being a little different than he had anticipated, and he was able to come up with a tale to share with the world.
Mitchell and his seven pals left their hometown of Vicksburg, Michigan and traveled to a rented cabin in the woods in Tennessee for a weekend of partying.
The cabin was officially off-limits to women, as is customary for stag parties, but things changed when an unexpected visitor showed up at the door.
The unexpected visitor was a mom stray dog. She made the decision to go check out the food after smelling the mouthwatering aroma of bacon coming from the cabin door.
“It all started while we were cooking bacon our first morning on the trip with the door to the cabin open,” Trevor Jennings, one of the revelers, told The Dodo.
The men felt they could make an exception for her despite the fact that she was a girl and invited her to attend their stag weekend. They didn’t know the dog was in such horrible shape until they got closer to her.
“We went outside to pet her and that’s when we noticed she was in rough shape,” Jennings said. “You could see her ribs and she was eating any scrap of food we gave her.”
As the guys decided to serve their starving guest a good meal, they learned that she was also extremely thirsty in addition to being starvingly hungry.
It was obvious from the mother dog’s tummy that she was now nursing some puppies.
She had devoted all of her efforts to keeping them alive, but where were they now?
The men assumed that the pups had likely been born a while ago.
“It was obvious she had some pups at some point but she was not producing milk when she found us so we thought the puppies were bigger,” Jennings said.
They were about to have a surprise, though.
The men’s curiosity finally won out, and they went to investigate when it became apparent that the mother dog was vanishing into a certain region of the woods.
They discovered something in one of the protected corners—a puppy’s head was protruding from a makeshift cave.
Also, there were seven of them, and they appeared to be quite young. It’s understandable why the mother dog would be so ravenous with seven little mouths to feed!
The guys decided to bring all of the pups back to the cabin without a second’s hesitation.
To leave them in the woods by themselves would have been extremely risky.
When the guys had cleaned the dogs, a decision needed to be made regarding what to do with them next.
And it only made sense for them to each take home a puppy after 8 guys discovered 8 dogs!
“We all live within about a 5-mile radius of each other and hang out most weekends,” Jennings said. “We typically bring the dogs along with us so they still see each other.”
The mother, now known as Annie, and one of her puppies, now known as Bear, were taken in by Craddock’s grandparents.
Now that Knox, Gunner, Annie, Brimmie, Finn, Rosie, Daisy, and Bear are living in a loving, joyful household, they may still visit their brothers and sisters.
The bachelor party had an unexpected conclusion, but everyone got to bring a dog home at the end of the vacation!
