Every shelter dog has a unique story of how they ended up there.
No difference is a Louisiana-born black lab. The lab’s name is Burreaux, and he came to the shelter with his two brothers, Joe and O.
They received the names from Humane Society of Northwest Louisiana volunteer Sarah Walton.
It turns out that she loves LSU football a lot. She was also responsible for returning the three 8-week-old puppies to the Humane Society after retrieving them from animal control.
For the puppies, it was a critical time. Walton and the other volunteers were certain that they could find them new homes if they worked hard enough.
Walton observed that Burreaux in particular stood out more than the other puppies in the litter, despite the fact that the entire litter was lovely.
She saw that he would begin grinning and flashing his teeth whenever someone spoke to him in a high-pitched manner. The dog had the cutest tiny smile, which gave him a very distinctive appearance.
In an interview with The Dodo, Walton provided further details about the situation:
“It’s whenever you’re talking real sweet to him … he gets this smile like he wants something,” said Walton, “[It’s] like he’s telling you, ‘Come pet me, come love me.’”
However, despite his capacity for smiles, Burreax’s brother Joe was adopted first. Joe was quite skilled at playing fetch, which led to his speedy adoption by a family.
“The entire litter was friendly and sweet and they like to play,” said Walton. “Burreaux and his sister are starting to learn fetch, too.”
Burreax’s ability to attract attention was still improving, so the volunteers were forced to think of a fresh perspective to convince others to adopt him.
They then recalled his charming smile.
Burreaux’s silly grin was captured on camera and shared to the HSNL Facebook page, where it quickly went viral.
“We were thinking, ‘Burreaux wants a home so bad that he’s always smiling, trying to cute it up,’” said Walton. “So we took that video and now it’s going viral.”
When Burreaux is pleased, he opens his lips to display his teeth like a little child.
It’s an effective approach to get attention.
And Burreaux’s plan was incredibly successful! Burreaux was adopted not long after the viral video of him grinning became viral.
“Happy life Burreaux!! Our sweet smiling boy who became social media viral with his grin has found his forever!!” the shelter wrote on Facebook.
We’re so glad Burreaux is now in a wonderful forever home. What a sweet boy.
