After the loss of his cherished canine companion, Michael J. Fox introduces his new “best friend” to the world

Michael J. Fox, aged 61, has expanded his family, but not in the way you might expect. Rather than having another child, he has adopted a new dog! Michael announced the arrival of his new furry friend, Blue, on his Instagram account, officially making him a part of the family. Blue came into Michael’s life nearly two years after the passing of his beloved dog, Gus, who had been by Michael’s side for over a decade before passing away at the age of 12. Gus was not just a pet to Michael; he was like a second son and fifth child, offering support during Michael’s struggles with Parkinson’s Disease, which he was diagnosed with at the age of 29 in 1991. Despite retiring from acting, Michael continues to face daily challenges due to his illness.

Despite the challenges he faces, Michael is fortunate to have the love and support of his family, as well as the company of his beloved dog, Gus. Michael reflects on the special bond he shares with his furry friend, stating that he didn’t rescue Gus, but rather, Gus rescued him. The connection between them is profound, and Michael acknowledges the comfort and joy that Gus has brought into his life. Despite struggling with a chronic illness, Michael recognizes that his instinct to isolate himself can be counterproductive, and instead credits his dog with helping to open him up and expand his world.

Michael and Gus were a familiar sight on their morning walks through Central Park, where they often attracted attention from passersby. Despite Michael’s fame as an actor, he humorously noted that most people were actually interested in his furry companion. As a testament to their love for the park, Michael’s wife Tracy Pollan gifted them with a bench bearing a plaque that read, “For Mike Fox and Gus. True New Yorkers.” The bench became a meaningful memorial for Gus, who brought so much joy into Michael’s life.

One particularly touching memory occurred when Michael underwent spinal surgery in 2018 and had to relearn how to walk upon returning home in a wheelchair. Waiting for him was none other than Gus, who circled the wheelchair before sitting in front of Michael and offering a comforting presence. Michael recalls feeling reassured by Gus’s presence and knowing that everything would be okay.

The loss of a furry companion can be devastating for any pet owner. That’s why it’s essential to cherish and create great memories with them while they are still with us. Although it’s painful to say goodbye to Gus, Michael finds solace in knowing that he and Gus shared a deep love for each other. Now, Michael is ready to extend that love to a new furry friend, as he welcomes Blue into his home. The announcement of Blue’s arrival has been met with an outpouring of love and support from fans, with almost 750k hearts and 8k comments on Michael’s post.

Many have also noted the striking resemblance between Blue and Einstein, the beloved dog from the Back to the Future movies. In the end, as Michael knows all too well, giving love leads to receiving love in return.
