Adopting a child can be an incredibly rewarding experience that benefits both the child and the adoptive family. Adoption provides a loving home to a child who may have experienced trauma or neglect, while also fulfilling the desire of many individuals and couples to become parents. Adoptive parents have the opportunity to provide a stable and nurturing environment for a child, helping them to grow and thrive. Adoption also provides a sense of fulfillment and purpose to the adoptive family, as they play a significant role in shaping the future of a child’s life.
For kids and their parents, adolescence is already a challenging time. Communication between them is difficult and complicated throughout these years due to all the physical and hormonal growth that occurs.
Imagine yourself as an adoptive adolescent. The fact that they now have to cope with a new family on top of the changes that are occurring to their body and brain makes things much more difficult.
However, adopting a teenager signifies that you truly cherish them in your heart. And perhaps they consider you to be a very significant person.
James and Abraham, two Sierra Leonean brothers who were just adopted by a family in Charlotte, North Carolina, experienced precisely this.
Jamie and Joe Walker already had four children of their own, but they felt the urge to expand their family when Joe met these two boys some time ago when he “took a trip down to Sierra Leone with his friend who started an orphanage there,” according to WCNC. Jamie and Joe Walker already had four children of their own.
It appears that Joe and the brothers hit it off immediately away. Joe went back to his house after leaving, maintained in touch with James via Skype, and then came back to visit them.
He immediately understood that he had to adopt the boys. He had a feeling that his family was destined to accomplish this for some reason.
His wife and kids concurred, and they began the adoption procedure. However, when the pandemic broke out, things didn’t go as planned.
In October 2021, the brothers were formally adopted, and everything improved for everyone.
Abraham’s new family wanted to surprise him with a birthday cake when it was his birthday in May of this year.
When Abraham saw his mother enter the room carrying a gorgeous cake with his name on it, he was not only shocked but also in disbelief.
The little youngster had never gone through anything like this before.
He revealed to a local news outlet that prior to meeting his new family, not only had he never blown out birthday candles, but he also had no concept of what a birthday was.
“We never knew about something called a birthday,” he told Queen City News. “It just feels like God is showing all the blessings in you. Everybody in the whole world is giving you their best love that they have ever given. That is what it feels like to have that cake.”
As soon as he understood what was happening, he sprang up from the counter and hurried over to Joe to give him a bear embrace.
While the other family members were urging him to blow out the candles, he ultimately did so without making a wish because he was unaware of his destiny.
“As it unfolded it dawned on me that Abraham would have no idea what “make a wish” meant so we let him have a redo,” Jamie wrote in the Facebook post.
