Fireworks Cancelled in This Small Town to Ensure Uninterrupted Naptime for Walrus

A sleepy harbor town in England called off their New Year’s Eve fireworks celebration to avoid disturbing Thor, the Arctic Walrus who has become a major attraction in Scarborough. According to BBC, the mammal has been gradually traveling up the east coast and has been seen in various beaches, drawing large crowds.

Local wildlife experts have urged people to refrain from disturbing the creature, which was recently spotted on the Hampshire coastline. In consideration of Thor’s wellbeing, the council decided to cancel the New Year’s Eve fireworks display, as advised by the British Divers Marine Life Rescue who warned that it could cause distress to the walrus.

Chris Cook, a representative from the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, emphasized the importance of allowing the walrus to rest and recover before continuing its journey. Meanwhile, Stuart Ford, who operates the Sealife Safari boat tour in Scarborough, described Thor’s presence as a magnificent and once-in-a-lifetime experience for the town.
